I am not a very vocal person when it comes to promotion. In fact I go viral on the social media only after I have been threatened by my PR group ! Thus the Kolkata book launch was never discussed.
It was hard for me to write about the launch – mainly because each time that I thought about writing about it, somewhere my own words choked me and a few scenes too. I missed my old lady in the front row – wearing crisp white saree, listening intently and proud that her grand-daughter has inherited her line of thought. But then, Ma took the exact seat she would have taken and each time they referred to her and her influence on me, I was her eyes moist.
My oldest friends from school came to cheer me – you know the kinds with whom you shared the bibs in school? BFF’s family, my old colleagues who turned closest buddies. But you know, what stood apart – the entire gang of teachers who came in to show their support. Teachers, who’ve corrected my grammar, scolded me but then motivated me throughout my school life, I wonder how they felt seeing the pigtail girl wearing a saree!
My sister, who miraculously was there when the launch was planned, the entire family jing bang who made me feel like a celebrity.
The panel was more thank i could ask for! So while Alaknanda R0y, said that she read the book early morning each day, for she wanted her day to begin with a thought for the society, I felt a shiver down the spine. The other two poets and writers/reviewers from Sahitya Academy (Subodh Sarkar and Ramkumar Mukhopadhya) left me speechless by interpreting woman’ism over feminism.
The interviews shocked me – was it me? The DD Bangla feature was lapped up and then suddenly there was a feature announced that shall feature me – a very very special one on Television. More details coming up on that! As of now – leaving you with this…
